Hope against Hope

June 12, 2010

Does art imitate life or does life imitate art? It is a question for the ages. I do know that over my lifetime, I have faced many setbacks. What is it within me that keeps looking forward, that keeps hoping, that keeps believing with one more effort I can reach that next goal? There is a drive within a man that propels him to new heights while the tides off success are with him and keeps his wheels spinning when mired in the valley of defeat. All that is within me wants to pull it into neutral and stop the fight against the tide. But there is within me some force that presses on to hope against hope that with the next turn of the wheel I will be free of the swamp of defeat and back on the road to success. It would be easy to quit and make excuses.

I believe that it is in midst of trials, when you are in the tempest of the storm that a man’s character is developed. You really learn what you are made of. I believe that every man has a capacity to endure and achieve that is beyond anything they could conceive. Hope is the seed of that capacity and hope was planted by our creator into our hearts. It is the God nature within us that we have to tap into to succeed in this life. It is hope that keeps your eyes open in the midst of the struggle. With your eyes open, you are able to see the doors of opportunity that are strategically placed along your journey. No one can open those doors for you, but you.
